Traffic accident on Western Highway injures 5 persons
Just before news time, an accident between miles twenty and twenty-one on the Western Highway this evening left five people injured. It involved four vehicles; a Ford pickup truck and a vehicle being towed by a Toyota four Runner, all heading towards Belmopan and a green Ford van heading towards Belize City. Reports are that the driver of four runner overtook the pick-up truck at a curve. At the same time the van, occupied by four Taiwanese nationals, was approaching. The four runner swerved back into its lane just in front of the pick-up truck but the van ran off the road and hit the pick up truck. News Five spoke with one of the injured persons at the scene.

“Dehn seh dah wah police inspector mi di drive wah vehicle weh look like ih just come from states with wah car dah back cause none ah di vehicle noh have license plate. So when ih reach dah di curve right deh so we deh eena di same line weh all di vehicle weh come from states di go towards di west ah di country. When we reach dah di curve yah so di bally look like he tired ah drive slow behind me and he overtake. When he overtake, dis green van mi di come fast but ih look like weh di green van di come fast, he deh eena di wrong lane too and when di bally si di van di come, he try swerve back front ah we and when he swerve back di car mek he lose control weh he mi di tow. And di green van noh want crash into di car so di green ban run off ah di road deh so and lose control and come back pan di road. And when he come back pan di road dah right into di pick up weh we mi deh eena.”

“I don’t know. I can’t tell yoh, yoh would ah have to get dah information from di police. Lone adults, no children. Dehn mi have four Chiney man eena di van.”

“How much people would you say got hurt?”
Mitchel Lewis
“Well, three ah di Chiney man dehn get bad hurt. Di ambulance dehn ker dehn too.”
The five injured persons are all at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
