D-Revelation finishes tour, releases CD

Story Picture
They are just back from a U.S. tour and their latest CD has recently gone on sale. Things are looking up for the band known as “D-Revelation” and Patrick Jones found out why.

The fourteen songs on the compact disc, all originals, continue in the well-known D-Revelation tradition. Public relations officer for the band, Paul Flowers, says the “Payday” album carries a single message, that the things we do today, will one day catch up with us.

“They really need to know that there is a time when everybody has to give account. Payday is all about, some people do what they want, some people say what they want, go where they want, and they don’t care. And it’s a society thing where the small man is being dumped on a lot by the bigger man, per se. And sometimes you know, you get the feeling that these people are invincible and like, you will just forever be hurt and hurt and there is nothing that we can do. Because they don’t really care and they have all the power. And D-Revelation has come in to bring hope to the small man and a warning to the big man.”

Flowers says, the band’s latest release, is the culmination of years of research and growing pains.

“There are four punta rock songs, there are six reggae songs, there are two souls songs, there’s a ska, which is the international music that is the foundation for reggae music. As a matter of fact, one of the more popular songs, “Power To Love,” is a ska, which was intentional. That’s the song that we have floating on our web site because that is the song that speaks the most universal language. And we believe in our hearts that Belize needs more power to love.

The compact disc we believe, is a culmination of all the lessons we’ve learnt over five years of recording. We’ve previously released four cassettes and we learned a lot form the release of cassettes: positioning of songs, the type of songs, the packaging, the marketing, what people want to hear, how to transcend the market, how to straddle the gospel market and the mainstream Belize, because D-Revelation’s focus is mainstream Belize.”

Flowers says D-Revelation has been able to reach that target group through its popular barefoot concerts, but never on tape. The closest they came he says, was with “Jam Wid The Lamb,” a couple of year ago but that hit single did not have staying power. Their recent tour of Los Angeles, Flowers says, was a huge success and now that they’re back home, the focus shifts to preparations for next month’s concert in Belize City. The band has also been working closely with UNICEF to develop a program designed to make children stay in school.
