Pastor Says Our Approach to Engaging Youths in Positivity Has been Wrong

Jermaine Garvey

Pastor Jermaine Garvey explained that the manner in which people have been approaching youths to discourage them from negative behaviour is the wrong way. He shared how he thinks we should be engaging youths to get them into more positive activities.

Pastor Jermaine Garvey, Dir. International Youth Fellowship, Belize

“The approach that people have been taking to deal with youth problem, let me be very frank, it’s incorrect because we are focusing on the physical intangible thing and change can only be temporary, if any. Instead, there’s a mind and a heart that everybody has. It’s invisible, but it’s actually what has been driving every action of the person. Because we cannot see the mind and the heart, we ignore it and we only focus on the physical thing, if it’s bad, changing it to good. But if the heart can be changed, then automatically without any effort, action would naturally be changed. So mindset education focuses on teaching about that world of the heart that we do not know. The Minister went to South Korea and when they go there they are introduced to this principle. When he came back to Belize I interviewed him personally. First thing he said to me: Jermaine all of our youth need mind education because he came to realize that this is paramount, most important.”
