B.S.C.F.A. on Sugar Industry: “We cannot be playing with this industry”
If negotiations fail, even with an independent mediator involved, then the Government of Belize must no longer neglect its responsibility to the sugar industry, says Andrew Westby, the Chairman of the Committee of Management at B.S.C.F.A.

“To put things straight, if that would fail then I think government needs to take their responsibility serious. This is an industry that is the backbone of the country and government cannot be sleeping or what I should say, neglected that his responsibility is not needed at the table. He has to get up and take the responsibility serious because this is an industry that will benefit all of us here in Belize, and if that industry will go down, fifty thousand plus in the north will also go down. And, everybody that depends on it directly and indirectly will go down. So, we cannot be playing with this industry and I think government needs to be taking its job seriously. What the past government messed up, it needs government again to fix it and regulate the industry for the betterment of the industry and the people that depends on it.”
