One winner comes in to collect
While Young and her staff prepare for the future, one of the winners of the forty-two thousand, five hundred dollar regular jackpot, Roy Sutherland, wasted no time in collecting his half of the prize. Sutherland says he plays the Lotto “every now and then” and that it is the first time he has won. The thirty six year old husband and father of four says, there are no immediate plans for the money, but that his children will play a significant role in how it is spent.
Roy Sutherland, $42,500 Lotto Winner
“Well, no immediate plans so far but one thing I can assure, that it is going to be well spent.”
Q: “No ideas as to what you’re going to buy first?”
Roy Sutherland
“Well, obviously I think education is number one priority, right and after that we’re going to see what will happen.”
Q: “Roy, how did you find out that you won the Lotto?”
Roy Sutherland
“Well, usually my wife, she keeps a check on the TV and usually writes down the winning numbers. And after we cross-checked the numbers we were amazed to find out that we won.”
Q: “Were there like lots of shouting and jumping up?”
Roy Sutherland
“Yes, because my wife, she called her sister way back in the States and let her know about our winnings, right.”
After a fifteen percent government tax deduction, Sutherland took home eighteen thousand and sixty two dollars. The jackpot now reverts to twenty five thousand dollars for Wednesday’s draw. You can see the numbers drop right here on Channel Five.
