Anti-Shyne Faction Fails to Trigger Recall Convention

Shyne Barrow

A concerted effort by a dissenting minority within the United Democratic Party to unseat Mesopotamia Area Representative Shyne Barrow as leader, has fallen flat, after failing completely to produce the intended effect of triggering a recall mechanism.  As we reported on Friday, two hundred and one signed petitions were turned over to the U.D.P. secretariat by Vice Chairman Alberto August. Those signatures are the result of an attempt to revoke Barrow’s leadership of the battered party by putting into motion a series of events that would culminate in a recall convention. The news tonight is that there will be no such activity on the U.D.P.’s upcoming calendar of events. The signatures have been vetted and it has been determined that the cabal has fallen short of satisfying the threshold.

“I think the letter is self-explanatory.  Forty-three people retracted their support for the petition.  About three people were not even on the delegates list and a couple of them had resigned, and some of them were signed by alternates.  And so, those were the people that were not qualified to be on the recall petition.  In addition to the fact that, well this part did not really matter once we dealt with the retractions and the disqualifications per se, but many pages were filled with signatures indicating no reason as to why those people signed those pages.  So it was just a blank page that said, “Print your name here and sign here,” but nothing on the page itself to indicate that it was for a recall petition.  So those were the things that led the secretariat to conclude that the recall threshold was not met for you to trigger the recall convention to remove the party leader.”

“Sir, was such stringent standards applied when you reviewed the last recall petition in June of 2021, the one brought by Tony Herrera to the headquarters?”

Michael Peyrefitte

“Yes, we did the very same thing.  We made sure we meticulously checked that each person was actually a delegate, there were no retractions in that case and the threshold was met with their documentation clearly indicating that they were requesting a recall convention.”
