Ministry of Health to Acquire CT-Scan for K.H.M.H.
Turning back to the public health system and the challenges at the K.H.M.H., Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard says that the ministry will acquire the CT-scan for the national referral hospital. As you’ve just heard, for years now, patients in need of this service at the K.H.M.H. have had to risk their lives to travel to a private healthcare facility for this procedure. So what’s the hold up? Minister Bernard says it’s with the contractor general.
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness
“We have stepped in and we have written to the contractor general for us to ensure that we go through a selective bidding process because it is urgent that we get the CT-scan for K.H.M.H. and I have said, just as I have said before that we are going to ensure that that CT-scan comes to country. The ministry will find the funding for us to be able to give that CT-scan to K.H.M.H. I believe that the people that go to our public facilities are the ones that cannot afford and we have to get those services provided by K.H.M.H., our main referral hospital. And I guarantee the Belizean people and I call again on the contractor general for us to end the bureaucracy and let’s get the process done. We have done what we need to do; we have submitted what we need to submit. We cannot continue to hold back the process and we need to get that CT-scan procured, bought, installed so that we could start to provide the service to the Belizean people.”
