P.S.U. Demands that Increments are Unfrozen

Dean Flowers

The union president says that it is a matter that will now be taken to the P.S.U. membership with a plan of action to determine a mandate going forward because C.E.O.s will now be getting eighteen thousand dollars annually for living and entertainment allowance, which is more than the salary of some public officers.  Dean Flowers says that it is insulting and unacceptable and demands that their increments are unfrozen. Flowers says that the increments should be reinstated if not immediately, by the next fiscal year. In April 2023

Dean Flowers, President, Public Service Union

“We have public officers who are earning less than eighteen thousand dollars per annum when these people are walking home with that in a single allowance, because we are not talking about their motor vehicle allowance and their telephone allowance which as we all know hover in the thousands as well. It is unacceptable and if it is that C.E.O.s can get back what was never taken from them, then the Public Service Union of Belize, on behalf of public officers, must demand the immediate unfreezing of our increments because that was our sacrifice. That was our sacrifice and if everybody can get back what they sacrificed including HODs, who are our comrades, but they also got back as I understand their entire housing and entertainment allowances, then we are saying that we need ours. We are the masses here in the public sector and it is unacceptable that we continue to be used as the sacrificial lamb so that a few people appointed by this administration continue to live high and continue to eat and benefit at the expense of poor public officers and poor people because in effect that is the margin to which we are being pushed.”
