Accident in Chetumal kills two, injures seven

An early morning accident across the Mexican border has killed two and left seven others hospitalized in Chetumal. According to Corozal police, just shortly after one this morning, Chetumal time, a small car driven by twenty-one year old Hipolito Marin of Corozal town, was travelling on the main highway to Chetumal with three Mexican nationals. As they reached an intersection near the site of Expofer they collided into a Dodge vehicle, also with Corozal license plates. The Dodge, which was heading towards Belize, had five Belizeans inside, three women and two men. They all received injuries and have been hospitalized. According to reports, the impact was so great that Marin died on the spot, after breaking his neck, ribs and arm. Also killed in the crash was Marin’s front seat passenger, thirty year old Vicente Osvaldo Masqueda of Mexico. Masqueda’s body was found outside of the car, which was totally destroyed. While it is not known when the injured Belizeans will be transferred home, Police say they were made to understand that Marin’s body was scheduled to be transported to the Corozal Hospital morgue sometime today.
