New CD for Bredda David

He’s been absent from the local music scene for quite a while; but it doesn’t mean that Kungo Music specialist Brother David has been idling his time away. In fact, the veteran musician has been hard at work putting his best loved songs into one handy package. Apart from incorporating his twenty years of experience in the local music industry, Brother David is using his latest project to convey a single message this celebration season, that is, despite our differences, we are one people.

“I am using a flavor of brukdown music. I used some kungo music. My son Dave play the accordion on the keyboard in that song. So in that song I am putting a mixture of Creole music together that is very satisfying to hear rather than just what I am about. I am incorporating some of what I learnt from Mr. Peters; some of what I hear right here in Belize form the Latin people and some of myself. And the message just kind of calm, hello everybody, how you feeling today, you know.

We did not complete an entire C.D. but what we decided to do was to put out the songs that we have on cassettes and add three of our other good songs like Tribal Vibes which just got world distribution, so that people could get to hear those songs again.”

Q: “The songs that are on there, are there any news ones?”

“Yeah, the first four songs: “Hello Everybody,” which I love very much. I love all the songs but that one seem to touch me a little bit deeper. And “Melinda Girl” is more a rhythm folk song. “Mr. Brown,” kind of rhythm again folk song. And after that we do “Stand Up Belize” which seems to be the hit song on the album. It talks about social issues, serious social issues which the people, all of us, needs to focus on; be aware of what is going on around us and try to look beyond the obvious.”

The eight song CD was made specially for radio D.J.s. The public can look forward to a full compact disc album of new and old songs from Brother David in November.
