“Let’s talk about what that looks like during disasters because I know that there are some people here at the medical facility. Do they get discharged? What happens during this time?”

Maria Monima

“Yes, for example, this morning we have a census – just an example – of eleven patients in maternity ward. Some of them have been discharged. We are ready to receive any emergency. The patients, who are able to continue the care at home, have been discharged. All the departments have been informed about the preparedness. We secure especially with the coverage, ensure coverage in case that we have any mass casualty in the district and not only here in Stann Creek but also in Toledo District.  The vehicles, fuel in the vehicles, water, food for the patient, food for the staff and medical supplies also. For our hospital to have that continuation of water and electricity is basics, it’s important. Imagine to have a going emergency C-section, we have to ensure that service. So the maintenance department and the head of department has been very supportive to have that up and running. We have a backup generator and also the backup of fuel for these emergencies.”
