Limited Movement a Measure of Safety
As we said earlier, the Government of Belize has declared a curfew for the Belize District, with the exception of San Pedro and Caye Caulker. Elsewhere in his late evening press conference, the Prime Minister further explained the need for the institution of a curfew. Here is what he told reporters.
“We have just signed a proclamation that with the regulations that the Governor General has signed and so have I within the regulations that basically what we have done is just to have a curfew so that we can enter a state of emergency using the Disaster Area Declaration, which allows us to call for a curfew or whatever it is we need. I believe that electricity will be fully restored by Sunday. The main reason we want to institute a curfew at night is because certain areas of the city still do not have electricity. So to be able to keep things safe we want to make sure everybody stays in their home from seven p.m. to six in the morning. Businesses can open through the course of the day.”
