Belize City woman wins Courts draw

Story Picture
Payday for most people may still be over a week away, but it didn’t stop one employee of the Fiesta Inn from collecting her check this morning. Twenty-nine year old Carla McSweany’s short cab ride from work to the North Front Street offices of Courts Belize was to pick up her prize as the final five thousand dollars winner in the Serious Cash Two Sweepstakes. McSweany, who works as Assistant Manager of the Frequent Guest program at the Fiesta, says part of the proceeds from her winnings will be used to pay bills, while the rest of the money will be put away for a rainy day.

Carla McSweany, Courts $5,000 Winner

“About a month ago I came and I bought a sofa bed and a table and chair set and I brought in the tickets personally. There were a whole lot of tickets, so I crossed my fingers and I said O.K., I feel like I am going to win something. I was in San Pedro for the weekend. When I flew in Tropic Air informed me that I had won and I got happy.”

Q: “What went through your mind when they told you you just won five thousand dollars?”

Carla McSweany

“I didn’t believe too much because the person that told me, I thought he was just kidding and then afterwards more and more persons were calling me and congratulating me so, I said o.k., then it’s true.”

McSweany says it’s the first time she has won anything and plans to continue doing business with Courts. Who knows, maybe her luck will improve for next month’s draw, at which time the jackpot will increase to ten thousand dollars. The furniture and electrical store is giving away one hundred thousand dollars in the Serious Cash Two draws this year. November’s jackpot will be twenty thousand dollars and the largest single prize will be fifty thousand dollars in December.
