Delegation leaves for Commonwealth Games

It’s a long way to go but six Belizean athletes and three officials departed the country this afternoon en route to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The occasion is the sixteenth hosting of the Commonwealth Games. The athletes, all female, are sprinters Tricia Flores, Jackieva Castillo and heptathalon specialist Candace Blades, while Quinton Hamilton, Ernest Meighan and Andrew Smiling will try to make their mark on the world of international cycling. Josephine Flowers will go along as an athletic official while Yvonne Robinson will do the same for the cyclists. Rudolph “Sir Andie” Anderson leads the delegation, which competes under the banner of the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association.
