Robert Gillett gets 8 years in jail for burglary

Story PictureAnd we turn to the courts, last Thursday a jury found twenty-year old Robert Gillett not guilty of Manslaughter, but convicted him of a Burglary charge… and today Gillett received a sentence of eight years for that offence. Before Justice Adolph Lucas handed down the ruling, he heard mitigation pleas from Gillett’s attorney, Anthony Sylvestre, and character witness Albert Magdaleno Jr. Sylvestre asked that the court to take into consideration that Gillett was a minor when the June 2005 crime occurred and that he also did not partake in Garcia’s murder. When it was his turn to speak, Gillett told the court he was sorry for what happened and expressed remorse to the family of Noemi Mara Garcia, who was killed during the incident, and to homeowner Floyd Brown. Gillett also says that he will use his prison time as a learning experience so that he can be a different person when he comes out. Gillett’s sentence takes effect from October seventh, 2008; the date when his trial should have started. Prosecutor for the case was Crown Counsel Trinia Young.
