Labourer found guilty of keeping ancient artifacts
While police in the city chase down a suspected robber, in Belmopan, a twenty-five year old man has been made to answer for the illegal possession of artifacts. According to police, a search conducted on the person of Sergio Ramos Coronado on Thursday morning, resulted in the discovery of over thirty pieces of Mayan artifacts, including spear points, eccentric flints and shards. Twenty-four hours after he was arrested as he rode his bicycle along the Western Highway, Coronado appeared in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court on Friday and was found guilty of the charge of failure to obtain a license to posses any ancient monument or antiquity. He was fined eight hundred dollars and was given until October fourth to pay or go to jail.
