G.G. appoints educator to the Senate
On Thursday it was a journalist and a businessman, who were named to the Senate by the United Democratic Party. Today comes word that Wesley College Principal Brenda Armstrong is the Governor General’s choice for appointment to the Senate. She was slated to the post, after consultation with the Belize Advisory Council. Armstong has played an active role in advocating the rights of women, youth and disadvantaged persons. She has also served as a member of the National Women’s Commission and is currently President of the Belize Association of Principals of Secondary Schools. On Thursday, leader of the opposition Dean Barrow named Audrey Matura Tillett and Oscar Ayuso Junior as the U.D.P. senators. In related news, a P.U.P. spokesperson told News Five that the names of the four other senators to be appointed by Prime Minister Said Musa will be announced on Tuesday of next week. So far Attorney General Dickie Bradley is the only known P.U.P. member of the Senate.
