Jonathan Burgos is Charged for Stealing from a Belize City Attorney
Thirty-seven-year-old Jonathan Burgos, a businessman from Orange Walk, is accused of stealing three thousand, five hundred dollars in cash from a well-known attorney in Belize City. While the alleged theft happened two years ago, Burgos is only just being brought before the court to answer to charges that he deceived attorney Mark Williams when he accepted money for the purchase of a vehicle. On Wednesday, Burgos appeared unrepresented before a senior magistrate in the lower courts in Belize City where he was read a single charge obtaining property by deception. On September sixteenth, 2020, sixty-seven-year-old Mark Williams, a resident of Southern Foreshore, handed over the money to Burgos as a down payment towards the purchase of a vehicle. Since then, Burgos has failed to produce the vehicle which was to have been purchased in the United States and shipped to Belize. After several attempts to get a hold of the car dealer, an all points bulletin was issued for the detention of Jonathan Burgos. He was taken into custody on November eight and arraigned in Belize City. He was granted and met bail in the sum of two thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount. Burgos is due to return to court on December twenty-ninth, 2022.
