Operation Compassion – Belmopan Assists Belize City to Clean Up
They are the only two cities in Belize and tomorrow one will be assisting the other in the wake of the damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Lisa. Mayor Sheran Palacio and the employees at the Belmopan City Council will travel to Belize City from as early as six in the morning to assist the Belize City Council with the ongoing clean up. Today, Mayor Palacio told News Five that she will be heading to the Old Capital, along with a busload of workers from the Belmopan City Council on Tuesday.

“I’ve recruited our manual workers here and we will take a day to go and support the clean-up campaign of the Belize City Council. And in the press release that you received I had that I would have some students and the idea would have been to inculcate in them the spirit of volunteerism, that was the big idea and I was very excited about it, but at this time it will not be possible, so that we will have to save that for another time. But in the meantime it will be myself along with my hard workers here at City Council. We respond and we do things for others despite the fact that we are also in need, you know. But I find it as something in my heart that I wanted to get done from the following day, but to organize it hasn’t been that easy because transportation for example I’m getting it donated. Food I’m also getting that donated, and we’re all ready to go tomorrow.”
