Belize City Robbers Arraigned and Remanded for Weekend Jacking
A pair of armed robbers appeared before the magistrate’s court in Belize City today after being arrested and charged for a holdup on Amara Avenue that took place on Friday. Twenty-seven-year-old Troy Augustus and his accomplice, twenty-two-year-old Orlin Garcia, have been charged with two counts of robbery and one count of kept firearm without a gun license. The duo appeared unrepresented before a senior magistrate today after which they were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January sixteenth, 2023. “Kapel Chelanie, age twenty-five years, a warehouse supervisor of 36 East Canal, Belize City, reported that whilst he was supervising the unloading of a container on Amara Avenue, he was approached by two male persons who demanded his belongings and he handed over a blue in color Samsung A-12 cell phone valued at seven hundred dollars. Shots were fired by the accused individuals where they ran away from the scene. Quick response from the Precinct One support team led to the detention of these individuals fitting the description given. They were detained on Euphrates Avenue, Belize City, and they were found in possession of the item. The property was recovered and police have since detained Troy Augustus of a West Street Address and Orlin Garcia of Iguana Street address in Belize City. Both persons have been arrested and charged for robbery, jointly, based on the information or the report that was given.”
