Travis Navarro Walks From a Charge of Murder
Twenty-eighth-year-old Travis Navarro was acquitted of the murder when he appeared before the Supreme Court Justice Sandcroft earlier today. In 2013, he was charged for the execution-style slaying of twenty-one-year-old Rajiv Gonquez, the son of former Chief Meteorologist Dennis Gonguez. Navarro was represented by attorney Oscar Selgado, who delivered the news that the D.P.P.’s office did not wish to proceed with the matter. According to Selgado, the Crown’s main witness had initially given the police a statement in the wake of the murder. It is not clear what led to the nolle prosequi, but we understand that the witness was unable to cooperate due to his present mental state. Gonguez was shot and killed outside of the San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi Terminal on North Front Street on the evening of April twenty-ninth, 2013. In September 2014, Navarro was indicted for murder and four years later was released on Supreme Court bail in the sum of ten thousand dollars.
