Police Foil Midday Robbery at a Belize City Supermarket
Four men are in police custody tonight after a foiled robbery attempt at Lina Supermarket on Mahogany Street in Belize City. Just before midday a group of armed thieves entered the supermarket and held up the business owners. While carrying out the crime, a police mobile that was in the area drove towards the store. One of the suspects saw the mobile approaching and fled the scene. His suspicious behaviour alerted officers of the robbery in progress and they immediately moved in to detain the suspects. Trapped inside the supermarket with police officers at the entrance, the suspects then sought to get rid of their weapons inside the store. Police officers made quick work of apprehending the three men on the scene of the crime. They then searched the store and found three firearms hidden in various locations. Those weapons were processed and taken into custody as evidence. A team of officers carried out a manhunt in the area for the fourth suspect. He was detained soon after. As of news time, there has been no official report from the police department.
