Prices cut on public housing

While one house was destroyed by fire this morning, some homeowners in the Faber’s Road extension area got some welcome news this afternoon. Port Loyola standard bearer for the U.D.P., Boots Martinez presided over a brief ceremony where roughly sixty families were informed that the mortgages on their homes have been reduced, in some cases by as much as fifty percent. Martinez told News Five the intention is to make it easier for the occupants to own the houses quicker so that they can begin the task of renovation and expansion.

“About a year ago, as political officer, residents of the area were complaining about the deterioration of the houses on Faber’s Road and I presented it to my Prime Minister and he had looked into it and asked for a survey being done. And that is what has happened. And today, now the reduction will be over half a million dollars thanks to the government of Belize to the residents of Port Loyola.”

Q: “What’s the reduction for?”

Anthony “Boots” Martinez

“The reduction is fifty percent reduction on the cost of the houses and the rent will drop from one, fifty to a hundred dollars.”

Q: “How many residents of the Faber’s Road extension area are going to benefit from such a scheme?”

Anthony “Boots” Martinez

“Well such a scheme, you have about sixty-two residents from Faber’s Road which will benefit. That’s over four hundred people in Faber’s Road that will see more money in their pockets to do other things.

My agenda for Port Loyola is one of a good type which will make Port Loyola a better feasible place for people to live in and try to alleviate some of the poverty in Port Loyola.”

The distribution of low cost housing to residents of the division has been a pet project of Boots Martinez since he became the U.D.P. political officer for the division two years ago.
