Police and Community Stakeholders Collaborate to Curb Serious Crimes in Belize City
And, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Doctor Richard Rosado, the L.I.U.’s effort is only one tier in the department’s three-tiered approach to fighting crime. Rosado says that as these community stakeholders play their part in curbing gang-related crimes, the police department is able to focus on the third tier which is crime prevention and enforcement. He explained further.
Dr. Richard Rosado, Deputy Commissioner of Police
“As you may there are three tiers in fighting crime and for too long we have been focusing on the tier three, the enforcement aspect of it, and tier one and tier two we have been in the past, done minimal work on it and for the first time we have a comprehensive approach where in tier one we are focusing on the situational and social factors. In tier two we are focusing on the conflict aspect of it. And, in tier three the police department is working on the prevention and enforcement aspect of it. We believe that if we approach crime fighting from all three tiers is success will be better in terms of the tensions in the country and the violence in Belize City. But, all the three tiers must work hand in hand in order for us to be successful.”
