The Belize Bureau of Standards Launches CARICOM’s EELS Scheme
The Belize Bureau of Standards held a soft launch today for the Belize Energy Efficiency Labeling Scheme (BEELS). As a CARICOM member state, Belize was selected to participate in a pilot energy efficiency labeling scheme for refrigerators, air conditioners, and lighting. In fulfilling this commitment, the Belize Bureau has embarked on the implementation of its EELS pilot scheme with an initial focus on refrigerators and freezers. A ceremony was held in Belize City this morning.

“The Bureau of Standards is the national standards body responsible for promoting efficiency and competitive productions in goods and services, with quality infrastructures serving as the foundation in achieving this objective. The pillars of standardization, metrology, conformity assessment, and accreditation combined, serves to ensure that goods and services whether produced domestic or imported meets established regulatory requirements, such as those related to health and safety of consumers and the environment. The BBS is essentially responsible to protect, secure and safeguard the welfare of the country and consumers, a function carried out legally through standards and metrology acts.
