Get Ready for the Mr. Belize 2022 Championship
The Mister Belize 2022 Championship will be held on Saturday inside the Queens Room at the Ramada Hotel in Belize City. Bodybuilding and fitness athletes will register this Friday to compete in four categories, including novice, men’s physique open and bodybuilding open. It’s a return of the stage competition after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic and it is expected to bring together athletes from all over the country. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

It’s been two years since the Belize Body Building & Fitness Federation has been able to host the Mister Belize Competition and so this year, they are back bigger and better.
Mirna Paul Greenidge, President, Belize Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation
“After two years, being in lockdown, it is time to showcase those beautifully sculpt bodies. So we will have four categories. We are planning a novice, those coming in for the first time. We are also having the men’s physique which is a very popular one amongst the bodybuilders, and the open bodybuilding class and of course, we cannot leave the bikini fitness. It’s very inclusive; we cater for women. And also we want to introduce a new category, not at this show, but we have a sponsor that is going to be introducing something new. So we have a big surprise coming up.”
With the competition just a few days away, bodybuilding athletes Clayton Greenidge and Eric Vasquez have been putting in some extra work in the gym, to ensure that everything is just right for competition night. Greenidge is defending the Mister Belize title.
Clayton Greenidge, Bodybuilding Athlete
“It’s a long awaited competition. The last Mister Belize was 2019 and I am excited about it. I am sure the other guys are excited about it. I had a small gym at home so I did my workout and so forth so I kept in shape. I don’t let myself go. I don’t allow myself to get fat and things like that. I am all about health – health and fitness. So I live, breathe, sleep, eat it.”
“Coming on to the competition, that’s when you go a little extra. Let’s talk about what that is looking like; your preparation for Saturday.”
“Well you just have to do some fine-tuning, some points that you need to work on to get that refinement.”
Vasquez is also confident that he is going to win the Men’s Physique Open.
Eric Vasquez, Bodybuilding Athlete
“This one I am more knowledgeable about the sport so I have learnt a lot more than I knew back then. How do dry out the proper way, how to eat, eating six meals a day, keeping the protein high and everything. So this one is a bit different and I believe I am winning the championship. Sure, one hundred percent.”
“That’s a bold statement. Have you looked at the competition?”
“I haven’t seen any competition as yet, but I am sure I will win. I am sure.”
This year, the federation has received support from the Feinstein Group of Companies.
Ben Feinstein, Partner, Feinstein Group of Companies
“We are actually one of the bigger sponsors – two of our companies, Blackbird Caye Resort and Fort Point Security. We’re happy to be able to sponsor; it’s a sport that since I’ve known Clayton fifteen years ago that’s every year it has gotten bigger and better and we look forward to the main event on Saturday. I think it is important that all our businesses support our local competitors and athletes. So I encourage people to come out and support. The more support the sport gets, the better and bigger it is going to get.”
The entrance fee for the Mister Belize Competition is twenty dollars. Those who participate in the championship also get an opportunity to compete internationally. Duane Moody for News Five.
