Panama Interpol chief says Barrow’s charges false
As promised, the People’s United Party today produced evidence, in the form of a Panamanian newspaper report, that the accusations against representative Ralph Fonseca made by Attorney General Dean Barrow, have no basis in fact. The story, appearing in the newspaper “El Siglo” quotes the Panamanian director of Interpol, Dr. Jorge Mottley, as saying that there is no investigation, either in his office or that of the technical judicial police, of any case which involves Ralph Fonseca. On Wednesday, Barrow, in his capacity of Attorney General, called a press conference to declare that the Belize police had received an inquiry from Interpol in Panama in which the Panamanians said that Fonseca’s name had surfaced in connection with an investigation of money laundering in that country. As evidence for his accusations Barrow offered a copy of the fax, which had no names or return numbers attached. He also said that all subsequent communications with Panamanian authorities were over the telephone, and once again he declined to offer any names of the people on the other end of the line.
