Supplementary Budget to Be Presented for Repairs to Courthouse
This afternoon, the media caught up with Minister of Public Service, Henry Charles Usher at the handing over of a donation from a group of Asian businessmen from the south to the Belize City Council. We’ll have that next, but while with Minister Usher, he gave an update on the supplementary budget that cabinet intends to table at the next sitting of the House of Representatives. This supplementary is for recovery efforts and, as we found out, repairs to the courthouse are included in that budget.
Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Public Service
“I believe that a couple of ministries are coordinating to make sure that the full damage assessment is done. It is a comprehensive damage assessment that is being prepared and certainly when that is finished and we have our next house meeting, we will be taking that supplementary budget to the house for approval. You see what happened at the courthouse? And with these recent rains we are seeing even more houses where perhaps the damage was kinda hidden, but now it is being exposed by all the rains that have been happening over the past few days. So there is still a lot of work to be done, there’s still a lot of rebuilding that needs to be done and it is important that the Belizean people, our city residents know that we are there to make sure that the rebuilding is done and it is done even stronger.”

“Any quantum as to what the supplementary bills will be?”
Henry Charles Usher
“Not at yet. Those assessments are still being done and then we have to take it to cabinet for approval first.”
