B.S.C.F.A. Anticipating Delivery of Two Hundred and Sixty Tons of Stand-Over Sugarcane

With over two hundred and sixty thousand tons of stand-over sugarcane left in the field from last season, B.S.C.F.A. says it has no intentions to cause a blockade or delay the opening of the sugar crop. According to Ortega, in their last association meeting, members indicated that their primary desire is to see an agreement signed that is fair to both parties involved.

“I think that in different conference that we have presented we have seen what they have presented to us and really that is why we want to go in this negotiation so that these sort of things can change where we can have better knowledge on what is going on and them also so that the trust can be built between them and ourselves. That is why we are trying to negotiate and to see that we at least get something better than what we have. What we at least get something better than what we have right now. What we are looking for is that our farmers get something better than we are getting.”

“I would imagine nothing has changed in terms of your proposition for a sixty forty formula.”

“No, we remain to that. That is part of our proposition and we have told them come let us negotiate. It is not written in stone. That is the proposal we have an in that we have right now.”

“Tell me what is the mindset of your farmers at this time, going into these negotiations, hopefully next week or as early as possible. What is the mindset given that we are close to sugar crop? Do you believe that that date will be realized, and two, if not, I know there were conversations of threats.”

“No, we were not thinking of threats. We don’t believe in keeping back the crop. We have a lot of farmers with stand over cane from last year. And, we want our farmers to deliver. We want each and every farmer deliver cane. We are not here to see any blockade or stop nothing like that. What we want is the crop top start. But we, that Is what the farmers posed to us in our last meeting. The farmers want and are pledging that these negotiations come to an end, that we sign something that is beneficial to both side and that we continue our friendship in the industry but not taking advantage of each other.”
