Government Energy Director on Seismic Testing: Information is Power

Ryan Cobb, the Energy Director at the Ministry of Energy, was also asked about the advantages of seismic testing, when we caught up with him today. With reports that the Government of Belize has voiced intentions to conduct seismic tests in the exclusive economic zone, Cobb gave his take on the benefits of such an exercise from the perspective of the energy sector. Here is what he had to say.

“I can speak from the perspective of the energy sector when we always try to track our progress. The only way you can track your progress is by formulating a baseline, gathering all the information that you can possibly be gathered and make the best possible solution from that information. And I believe the Prime Minister and the Minister of Blue Economy has expressed the same sentiment. That is what we are looking for. When it comes to electricity we are looking to leverage all renewable sources so that is one of the biggest priorities we have. We are looking to electrify other processes such as electric mobility again that would reduce our dependence on hydro-carbons as well.”
