Student Debate on Vocational Education Development Draws Solid Arguments from Both Sides

The debate continued for well over an hour, after which there was also a session set aside for student senators. But the arguments for and against the further enhancement of vocational education in each municipality was one that drew solid arguments from student parliamentarians on both sides of the floor. Tomas Serrut served in his capacity as Prime Minister during the robust debate.

“We’re not all in pursuit of academic activities and scholarly goals, as our means of livelihood. A quote by Andre Gide speaks, and I quote: “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” We must not solely focus on academics; we must also make way and pave the road for those who would rather establish their lives based on more hands-on approaches to the society, for they make up the rest of what we don’t usually see behind closed doors. Careers that require specific skills or knowledge of a trade are highly essential to the overall development. Such individuals are necessary in a functioning society, for we are not all going to become captains of an industry. But the feats of those versatile, skilled, and at times strenuous labour, is just as, if not more, important to uplift and maintain a nation. It is not derogatory nor is it less to take on these roles. A keen example of the utility of these skills was displayed in the response within various sectors before, during and after Hurricane Lisa.”
