2022 Blue Economy Climate Resilience Forum and Blue Economy Fair

The Ministry of Blue Economy in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Green Climate Fund will be hosting its 2022 Blue Economy Climate Resilience Forum and Blue Economy Fair on Thursday and Friday. There will be a host of guest speakers at the event to engage in panel discussions on topics related to marine and spatial planning, the role of vulnerable groups in the blue economy, and the climate resilience nexus. It’s a free event open for the entire public. And, it promises to spread greater awareness on where Belize stands with its blue economy and climate vulnerabilities. We spoke with Jeffy Gomez, the G.C.F. National Project Consultant at F.A.O. about the forum.

“The 2022 Blue Economy Climate Forum, the main objectives includes to harness opportunities of our seas, lagoons, and rivers, in order to improve the lives of women, youth, and indigenous groups. That is one objective. The second is to establish a basic understanding and a link when it comes to women or gender and climate change when it comes to the value economy. And the third is to share professional and entrepreneurial information when it comes to blue economy sectors when it comes to the coastal zone and fisheries sector of Belize. On day one of the event, December first, nine a.m. to two thirty p.m. we will have three panel discussions. Of course, in the beginning we will have remarks by the NDA, by FOA reps in Belize, by the Blue Economy Unit, the Ministry itself and the panelist includes members of the Coastal Zone the Fisheries Department, the Belize Association of Planners, Belize Chamber of Commerce, WCS, the Director of Women and Families, the National Garifuna Council and human rights activist and the Met Office. The discussion will focus on areas such as marine spatial planning, the role of vulnerable groups within the sector and blue economy and the climate resilient nexus.”
