Korea Provides Technical Assistance to Help Belize Transform Public Transport Sector
Chief Executive Officer Marconi Leal told us about what a delegation of Transport officials went to do at a week-long technical meeting in South Korea last week. He said it all seeks to transform the public transportation sector and aside from getting new and modern buses, technical assistance and capacity-building are also key components of that upgrade.
Marconi Leal Junior, C.E.O., Ministry of Transport
“We had the I.D.B project, where the I.D.B funded based on the comprehensive National Transport Plan. That plan spoke about capacity-building within the department, so over the past two years we had integral and some key consultancy supporting us with routing and scheduling and with updating our laws and so a part of that was capacity-building. It allowed us to look at new technologies but at the same time, look at technologies that we can implement in Belize to support us with routing and scheduling, to support us with ticketing system, so there was a lot of technology and innovation that we saw but at the same time we saw a lot of ways that we can implement things in Belize, because we all know that South Korea is one of the top countries in the world optimizing at a national level and even at the municipal level the different solutions that these different cities are launching.”
