A Grandmother, Her Son and Grandson are Convicted of Drug Trafficking
A Belize City family is lucky to be at home tonight after being found guilty of three counts of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply. Eighty-year-old Brenda Vasquez, a retired teacher, her forty-two-year-old son, Giovanni Vasquez and her twenty-nine-year-old grandson Kristian Young, appeared before the magistrate’s court this afternoon where they were convicted of three counts of drug trafficking. The trio was arrested and charged after police raided their residence on Lauren Burgess Crescent and discovered a box of Lucky Charms cereal, as well as a pack of brownies containing eleven parcels stuffed with cannabis.
The raid took place in October 2020, but after two years of the matter being lodged in the lower courts, it has been attended to by Senior Magistrate Baja Shoman. The trio was fined a combined total of nine thousand, nine hundred and forty-five dollars which has to be paid by February 28th, 2023, April 30th, 2023 and May 30th, 2023, respectively.
