Scandal After Scandal, U.D.P.’s Image Continues to Take a Serious Hit
While the image of the United Democratic Party has been tarnished to a certain degree since 2020 in the wake of two leadership conventions that were held that year, as well as a subsequent loss at the polls several months later, it has also been taking a serious hit with a number of scandals, including the latest John Saldivar debacle.
Dean Barrow, Former Party Leader, U.D.P.
“We have to be concerned about appearances. We have to be concerned about what the public thinks of us. We insist, the party is insisting [that] it has a zero tolerance policy, so it makes sense. But, by the same token, for Mister Saldivar to say now, “Listen, I want to go before the National Party Council, I want to appeal to the National Party Council.” In my view, already the proceedings are intrinsically flawed, not by virtue of any deliberate decision on the part of the party or any deliberate bad faith displayed by the party because objectively, you can‘t get the evidence that you need. But you don‘t want to compound that, the party made an attempt at some form of due process, however limited, and I think it must continue along that same path.”
