Fire Destroys Residence in Sand Hill; Was It Related to Recent Triple Murder?

A wooden structure in Sand Hill Village, the scene of a triple homicide on November seventeenth, was reduced to rubbles over the weekend when it was reportedly set on fire.  But was the alleged arson connected to the murders of Emerson Garcia, Charleston Jenkins and Jareem Davis?  That’s what the Belize Police Department is investigating.  According to Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, they are working closely with the National Fire Service to determine the cause of the fire.

“For me to say that that is connected, I’d have to wait for the results from the fire department who are doing an investigation to prove whether it was arson or not.  We know that on Friday, police had to go out to a scene at mile nineteen, Sand Hill Village.  The owner of that house that burnt is believed to be in the U.S., so until we get some form of clarity from the fire department, we will reserve comment on that fire.”

“Sir, if indeed the department’s investigation says [that] it was an act of arson, how heart wrenching would that be to the department given that you guys did two walk-through in that community following that triple murder.  And if indeed it’s arson, it may be an act of, you know, intimidation.”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well, if it’s an act of intimidation then I am certain that our investigators will be able to prove it.  I can tell you that we have made every effort to make Sand Hill Village safe for the law abiding citizens of that village.  We have recently gotten a police vehicle to patrol also in that area.  We have increased personnel and we will continue to do our work with diligence.”
