Will Murder Stats Remain Lower in 2022?
2022 comes to an end in less than three weeks and the police department is working overtime to ensure that it maintains a lid on crime and violence going into the new year. While the official statistics will be released in the weeks ahead, the Ministry of Home Affairs anticipates that figures for 2022 will not exceed the numbers for last year which has been touted as a record low for murders in recent times.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
“I also had the opportunity to meet with the top brass of the police department, from inspector and above, and that was about two hundred police officers in last week and I had to commend them for the good work that they’ve been doing, especially when it comes to the numbers for 2022. It is hoped, if we continue along this trajectory, that by the end of 2022, we would have gotten less murders than 2021 which, I keep reminding, are actually less than all of the years of the U.D.P. thirteen and oftentimes I get criticized in the house by the very same U.D.P. But my mom always told me, when you’re in class, don’t copy from failures. Not that I would ever copy, but if you’re gonna copy, do not copy from failures and so we haven’t been doing anything that they’ve been doing. We’ve been taking a different approach at policing. We’ve been seeing very good results and there are certain areas that we have to focus on, like burglaries. And so, we are starting out with a PR campaign when it comes to burglaries.”
