Pinelo says there are steep penalties if people are caught with the carcasses of these wild animals in their possession. He added that it doesn’t matter whether the animals is taken for private or commercial use, it is still an offence to kill them at this time.
On the phone: John Pinelo, Jr., Deputy Chief Forest Officer
“Offenses carry a fine of up to ten thousand dollars or one year imprisonment.
If they catch you with one or with ten you still pay the same ten thousand dollars. You can pay up to ten thousand dollars.”
Marion Ali
“And it doesn’t matter if you catch the animal for your own personal use or for sale?”
John Pinelo Jr.
“It doesn’t matter because the closed season is the closed season. It’s the same situation with Fisheries, nuh.”
