Truck ambushed on Old Northern Highway, driver killed
This evening the mood at the Coca Cola Factory in Ladyville was somber, as one of the company’s longtime drivers was killed and a co-worker wounded during a holdup on the Old Northern Highway. While reports are sketchy at this time, it is reported that driver Anthony Felix and his sideman, twenty-two year old Allan Pandy had left the factory at eighty thirty this morning on their regular northern delivery run. The men apparently had made a delivery to the Maruba Resort on the old Northern Road, around four, when on their return to the highway they came upon a barricade that was set across the road. Shots then rang out from the bushes and according to police nine made their way through the driver’s door and back windshield. Felix was fatally wounded behind the wheel and is said to have died on the way to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, while Pandy was hit in the upper chest and is presently hospitalized at Belize Medical Associates. According to Pandy’s cousin, Anna Samuels, she was just about to leave work when she received the bad news.
Anna Samuels, Cousin
“I was just about to leave work and I got a call from my mom saying that my cousin just got shot and that he was on a route through Maskall. He works, first of all, with Coke Factory and he was on a route through Maskall Road and they held up the truck and he got shot and the standing driver, he died. They told me that he was right here in Medical Associates so I came straight over here and when I came here he was like… Right now he’s in stable condition. He got shot in his upper left hand side of his chest and right now he is not in any pain or such. The doctor has him under observation right now and we didn’t get to ask him much questions because the police are investigating what happened at the site.”
Q: “Did he speak to you?”
Anna Samuels
“Yeah he spoke to me. Like I said he is not in any pain or anything but it’s just that we are trying to find out exactly what happened and exactly what condition he is in. But right now he says that he is not in any pain so we’re thankful for that. But we’re just sad about what happened to the driver that he was with cause I understand he has a family and he died.”
According to Bowen and Bowen, Felix worked with them for more than fifteen years. Police at this time believe it was two men armed with automatic weapons who held up the truck and believe they are presently hiding out somewhere in the area where the crime took place. They have since launched an intensive search for the murderers. According to police, a man from Maskall Village came upon the bloody scene and it was he who drove the truck with the wounded men out to the new Northern Highway.
