Leader of the Opposition Chides Briceño Administration over Supplementary Budget

Moses Shyne Barrow

Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow responded to Prime Minister Briceño’s supplementary budget presentation with assertions that Hurricane Lisa is being used as an opportunity to “fleece the national coffers”. Sparks flew across the aisle when Barrow questioned the prime minister about the purchase of a vehicle currently in the P.M.’s use. Here is how that played out.

Moses Shyne Barrow, Leader of Opposition

“What it appears in this supplementary is that Hurricane Lisa is being used as an opportunity to fleece the national coffers. When you go through the supplementary Madam Speaker, this has to be the worst administration in as far as budget an planning with is a very important part of the Minister of Finance and that is what I use to think. But I pay attention. I might not be as smart as the member from Cayo South. I am not an intellect like him. But, I pay attention and what I have realized Madam Speaker it is not bad budgeting, it is that the bogus budget as I deemed it in this national House is just that. You are spending about three million dollars on new vehicles, I see that you have a new whit 2024, 2023 cruiser that cost about half a million dollars, that is I don’t know if you paid for it or is that a part of this supplementary. What is your point of order?”

Madam Speaker

“Leader of Opposition, I am speaking.”

Moses Shyne Barrow

“Ok.”

Prime Minister John Briceño

Prime Minister John Briceño

“The Leader of the Opposition is making false accusation, and the point is when talking about a vehicle I am driving, the government of Belize has not bought me a vehicle. I have been using my personal vehicle from the day I was elected.”
