Still No Arrests in Cleon Smith/Kendale Ramirez Double Murder

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood was also asked for an update on the double murder of Cleon Smith Junior and Kendale Ramirez which occurred on December fourth in the Saint Martin’s area of Belize City. The men, who are from southern Belize, were inside a parked vehicle on Electric Avenue when a young man brandishing a gun fired multiple shots in their direction, killing them on the spot. No one has been charged for the incident and Yearwood says that they need assistance from the public to crack this double murder investigation. At the onset of the investigation, Smith’s former girlfriend and her current partner were detained, but they have since been released.

“They were released and if needs be for them to be re-detained that will happen, but for us to say we have any update, no other new detainees, nobody has been charged so far, but hopefully we are following up some leads. It’s a broad daylight shooting, but we must take all the factors into consideration that this is in a neighbourhood where people are usually tight-lipped. We are just asking to put yourself in these two victims’ family situation and see how best you would have assisted if something like this should knock at your door. We are asking the general public to just help us, to cooperate with us. We can’t go on hunch; we have to go on evidence gathered or like I said, circumstantial could also work. We know that after eleven in the morning, everybody is up and around looking for dinner, looking for lunch time. We are positive that people saw, we are just asking them to come forward.”
