Police Constable Remanded to Prison for Theft of Firearm
The Communications Director of the Belize Police Department also confirmed with the media today that Police Constable Walford Smart is spending his first night behind bars after he was criminally charged and arraigned in court today. Smart is being remanded in connection with a firearm that went missing from police exhibit, ended up in the city streets and recovered by police. A.S.P. Fitzroy Yearwood shared details, including that Smart is to reappear in court on January thirteenth, 2023.

“I wouldn’t want to discuss the full details but I know it is for a firearm deemed to have been an exhibit that came back in the circles of the street and ended up back in our custody again. He has been named as the person responsible for that and he as charged and taken in front of court number two where he was remanded until the thirteenth of January 2023. I will give you a timely update on this because we know that this is a matter that is in front of the open court, so I wouldn’t want to give out any information that would hurt or help this case.”
