Belize City woman wins B.T.L. $10,000 raffle
Considering that it just announced a record thirty eight million dollars in profit, no one could argue that it wasn’t time for B.T.L. to show a little generosity. This morning News Five’s Jacqueline Woods was on hand as the company introduced one very lucky customer.
It’s probably the best wedding gift that Deborah Moe could have received. The resident of Lakeview Street in Belize City, who tied the knot just this past Saturday, this morning took possession of over ten thousand dollars, her prize as the winner of B.T.L.’s tenth anniversary raffle. The raffle was a gift from the telephone company to its customers.
Ediberto Tesucum, C.E.O., B.T.L.
“You know one of the things that we try to nurture into B.T.L. itself, is to be innovative. In the past we have been very active in supporting education, sports and culture, but we felt that it was also time for us to recognize our customers and since it was our tenth anniversary, then we thought that if we look at one thousand dollars for each year, that would bring us to ten thousand, so that was how it came about.
When we look over the past ten years and just to take a specific example, back in 1988, we had approximately eight thousand customers, telephone customers. After ten years we have more than triple that amount. It’s almost four times now, at thirty one thousand lines. So that is a measurement of where we have come in terms of providing telephone service to our customers.”
Moe, a bit nervous and still in shock over the good news, says she has no idea of just how many tickets she dropped in the barrel and had forgotten about it, until she received a call from her son Thursday night.
Deborah Moe, B.T.L. $10,000 Winner
“Oh well, I was out with my sister and some of my brothers-in- law and we were really having a good time and yes my husband too. And my son beep me and said to me that you just won ten thousand dollars from the telcom, sorry I’m saying strange things, from the Belize telephone company raffle. And I was no, you got to be kidding, cause this is the first time that I have ever won anything and I raced home and we tried to get in touch with the B.T.L. and they said come down to Biltmore and we all went there looking very rugged and the guy said, yes, you’ve won. That was something else, we were really excited. I am still very, very excited as you might have noticed.”
To enter the raffle all you had to do was pay your May and June phone bills. For every ten dollars in payments you received one raffle ticket.
