HelpAge Heading South this Weekend to Distribute Food Packages
It’s the time for giving and the folks over at HelpAge Belize have been going across the country donating hampers to the elderly who could use the assistance. Packages filled with thirty-four different items, including toiletries and groceries, have already been bagged off and ready for distribution. So for the next four days, the HelpAge team will be making those deliveries to the neediest. News Five spoke with Executive Director Ivorine Bulwer earlier today.

“We feel that during this time is an opportunity to bring joy and we are very happy with our partner B.E.L. who over the years has shown that they do care about our older persons. Our older persons, we have over four thousand seven hundred older persons receive free kilowatts from B.E.L. Annually, we receive Christmas hampers and this year, we are receiving one hundred and fifty hampers.”

“Distribution is about to start?”
Ivorine Bulwer
“We started our distribution from last week Monday. We did north – Orange Walk and Corozal – we went west and we did Belmopan and Benque. Yesterday we did Belize City. And tomorrow, Sunday Monday Tuesday, we will be going south. We go to Seine Bight, Punta Gorda, Dangriga and Hopkins. We have a total of seventy-five hampers to deliver to older persons and each hampers contain thirty-four different items. It’s not only to deliver the hampers, we are going down there to do, we are going to look at the environment to see how they are doing and at the same time we look at social issues, we look at health issues. And this is why we partner with the human development, we partner with the Ministry of Health because where necessary we do referrals.”
