Two suspects in Maya Beach murder held in Honduras

The police department has confirmed that two suspects in the murder of a U.S. tourist have been captured in Honduras. Norman “Butch” Martin and Carlos Castro are in the custody of Honduran police while a third suspect, Glenford Westby, is still on the loose, presumably in Honduras. According to national C.I.B. Chief Gerald Westby, Belizean law enforcement authorities have been working closely with their Honduran counterparts and since July twenty second two of his senior detectives have been assigned to the case in that neighboring nation. They present the following scenario: Martin and Westby were serving time in a Honduran jail on a number of assault and robbery charges. They escaped from prison and met up with Castro, a Honduran, and the three of them came across the bay to Belize in a stolen skiff. After committing the robberies of several hotel patrons and murder of Raymond Kirk in Maya Beach on the night of July fifth, the three headed out to sea. They apparently abandoned one boat at Laughing Bird Caye and stole another, a blue and white Mexican style skiff, from Mosquito Caye. They headed back to Honduras and allegedly split up upon arrival. Castro remained with the boat and was caught with it on July seventh. Castro apparently provided information on Martin and he was then captured in the small village of Truinfo de la Cruz, just outside of Tela. According to the police Martin was taken completely by surprise as he was socializing with two friends. He was allegedly in possession of several firearms. It is not clear how long it will take to bring the two accused murderers back to Belize as there will be a certain amount of red tape to deal with first. Authorities expressed confidence that time is running out for Glenford Westby and they hope to reserve three seats on the plane instead of two.
