Belize City Council to host annual fair in October
Not to be outdone by the September Celebrations, the Belize City Council is in the process of organizing some fun… for the month of October. The week of activities will include cultural and artistic displays, a two-day exposition and a poster competition. The fair, which will become an annual event, will also feature several historical highlights of the old capital. According to City Councilor Merilyn Young, the aim is to promote Belize City as a friendly destination.

“We are going to start off on October eleventh with a track event and a cycling event and then we are going to end the day with an ecumenical service at the Civic Center. We have contacted Fr. Flowers who is assisting us in organizing the event. We will also be having shows, displays and creative dance during the week at the Bliss as well as an art display at the Image Factory that week.
On Friday we will go back into the seventies and reminisce. We haven’t confirmed the place for that as yet, but to do that dance that night so everyone can get their psychedelic shirt and Afro wigs and bellfoot pants and come out that night go back to the 70’s.
On Saturday and Sunday we will be having the fair to show off what we have in the City. We want the ethnic groups to show the melting pot we have here. We will have various presentations going on. The N.G.O.’s we’ll be asking them to come out and show what they are all about. Different organizations especially environmental groups and various civic societies will also be asked to participate.”
Profits made from the fair will be donated to several charitable organizations including Habitat for Humanity and the Belize Cancer Society. Persons interested in getting booths during the week of activities are asked to get in touch with Merilyn Young at 31546.
