Another Cayo candidate’s relative accused of assault

Two weeks after the assault on cameraman Emil Rodriguez, at the hands of Inesita Fernandez, daughter of U.D.P. candidate Salvador Fernandez, another Cayo resident has formally lodged a complaint against a relative of a U.D.P candidate. Michael Juan, the nephew of Eduardo ‘Dito’ Juan, U.D.P Standard Bearer for Cayo Central, was questioned by San Ignacio police following allegations that he and a group of young men beat up one Santiago Waight and vandalized his vehicle. According to police, Waight reported to them that following a U.D.P outdoor meeting in San Antonio, Monday night, he was approached by Juan and several other persons. That’s when Juan, he alleges, attacked him with a flagpole, while the other men threw stones at his vehicle. Waight received minor injuries to his right underarm, while his pickup’s windshield was smashed. The police say Juan was questioned and then later released pending the outcome of their investigation. When asked the motive for the attack police say they have been able to ascertain so far that while the meeting was in progress, Waight, a P.U.P. supporter, was seen in the area, shouting and distributing his party’s leaflets.
