PACT Invests In Non-Traditional Conservation Programs
PACT also invested in the three non-traditional conservation programs as part of its extraordinary investment plan. The three entities are the National Biodiversity Office, the Association of Protected Area Management Organization and Friends for Conservation and Development. Perez told us more about PACT’s partnership with these organizations.
Nayari Perez, Executive Director, PACT
“Extraordinary investments are investments that don’t fit within the traditional conservation program that we have. And so they are extraordinary in nature whether it be because of time or because of the nature and activities. In the case of APAMO and NBIO which is they are going to be supporting system level activities. APAMO is the umbrella work of conservation NGO and NBIO is the office within the Ministry of Sustainable Development responsible for overseeing the governance of these protected areas and the national protected area system in general. So, we are going to be working with these partners to carry out activities related to policies, capacity building, etc. Then, we will be working with FCD in a long term investment that will see them do some work in seven sites across the Maya Mountain massif. And this is to support landscape level management activities in that area. So, instead of looking at activities within each of the site, we are looking at a more integrated approach at the landscape level in the western part of the protected area system.”
