M.I.D.H. Gifts Houses in the Cayo District
Earlier this week, we aired the story of a house handing over that didn’t happen in the case of a single mother in the Port Loyola area of Belize City. And while we’ll have an update on that coming up, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing has been going across the country gifting families, primarily single parents, with the keys to brand new homes, just in time for the Christmas holidays. The following clip captures the emotional reaction and gratitude by new homeowners from the villages of Armenia, Saint Margaret, Esperanza and the Maya Mopan area of Belmopan.
Concepcion Choc, Homeowner, Armenia Village
“I am so excited and I am so happy. I am a single mother for my six kids for sixteen years. I have never gotten nothing like this before so until now I get my key for my house. I di get old and then all of my children, I struggle with my children so much. I work so hard for my six kids so I give thanks one more time for my minister that he gave me my house.”
Ivy Gaitan, Homeowner, St. Margaret’s Village
“It’s really amazing. It’s wonderful. My kids are very happy with it and I really appreciate what you guys and the government have been doing. Even to the workmen, the labour guys that were here, I am really grateful with them and I am happy. What makes my kid happy makes me happy. So I am a happy mom and I am really happy that I can provide a home for them. Even though it is something hats small, you can make it a home. It is just amazing.”
Nestora Trapp, Homeowner, Esperanza Village
“Excited. A blessing for me and my baby girl. I wanna thank everybody that’s involved in this project. This is a dream come true. I wanna thank the Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing, the area rep, and a special thank you to Mister Collet Montejo and mostly the Most High cause where would this be without him?”
Sohbi Patt, Homeowner, Maya Mopan, Belmopan
“I feel super excited to have something. This is like a push for me because coming from nothing and having something makes your heart want to cry. I wanted to cry just now so I left the door. I didn’t want the whole world see me crying. But I was excited; I am super happy and super excited for what God has done. I always place the almighty first in everything because he is the one who inspire people to get certain things done. And He inspired the minister and the other guys to get the job done for us and I just want to give God thanks again.”
