Rotary’s Gift of Life announces raffle winners

Story PictureRotary Belize’s Gift of Life is a unique Program that helps children with heart problems receive the necessary healthcare in the United States that they would be unable to get in Belize. Not only do the organizers help with the diagnosis, they also assist with the travel and hospital expenses. But to undertake this costly venture, the Gift of Life must raise a lot of funds. In addition to annual Rotary plays, the Gift of Life, for the past two years has been raffling brand new automobiles. According to Alberto Young, Rotary’s Public Relations Director, in addition to a 2009 Nissan Navarra worth close to seventy-four thousand dollars, this year they also raffled a parcel of land at Belmopan’s University Heights Two.

“Every year we do fundraising programs not only for the Gift of Life Program. It is a significant program because it is costly and we do help over thirteen children this year so far who have gone for much needed surgery in the United States. We’ve had on air, on Saturday, little Jayda Perez who leaves with her mom Martha Perez on February twenty-third, to Boston to undergo surgery in early March. It’s just part of the many initiatives ongoing with the Gift of Life program.”

“Well, the raffle is our annual Gift of Life Raffle. This year we raffled a 2009 Navarra and a ninety by one-ten lot at University Heights Two in Belmopan. That actually came compliments on Saturday of Lascelle Arnold because both prizes we had gotten at a discounted price. But Lascelle Arnold came in last minute and says you know what this is really a worthy cause and I want to make sure the Gift of Life program is successful. We sold over fourteen hundred tickets. Our aim was for two thousand but we got a lot of support. Our winners were Anselmo Alamilla with ticket number 1483; he won himself a 2009 Nissan Navarra, along with a one year comprehensive insurance compliments of United Insurance and five hundred dollars fuel from Sol Belize, all taxes and duties paid. And the winner of the land, Mr. Abram Waul of Shipyard. We’d like to thank the Mennonite community for supporting significantly. They bought a lot of tickets and it was because of the support but also one of the Mennonite community children had been helped through the Gift of Life program and it was one way of them saying thank you.”

The winners can collect their prizes from Ellison Flowers at Belize Ship Handlers on Mahogany Street.
